As a leader, the demands on your time, energy, and attention are immense. Balancing multiple responsibilities, guiding your team, and making critical decisions can leave you feeling like there's no time left for yourself. However, neglecting self-care can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and even a negative impact on your team's performance.
I know, I know, you're very busy...but here's why prioritizing self-care is not something you can ignore.
☑️Enhanced Decision-Making: Self-care practices such as mindfulness, exercise, and adequate rest improve cognitive function, allowing you to think more clearly and make better decisions. When you're well-rested and less stressed, you're more likely to consider all aspects of a problem and come up with innovative solutions.

Personality assessments are one of my favorite tools! Try the Enneagram, DiSC model, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), or the CliftonStrengths Assessment. And taking the tests to find out your type is only step 1- take a little time to learn more about why you think and operate this way and what it means for your leadership. These tools provide a structured approach to understanding yourself, offering a deeper look into how you naturally respond to different situations and people, and also give you a framework for how to interact with people who may be very different from you.
Pay attention to situations that consistently trigger stress or negative emotions. Identifying these triggers—whether they are specific people, tasks, or environments—enables you to anticipate and manage them more effectively. Additionally, observe how your body and mind react to stress. Do you notice physical tension, anxiety, or irritability? Recognizing these responses is crucial for developing strategies to calm yourself and regain control.
Seeking feedback from trusted colleagues, mentors, or a coach can also provide valuable perspectives that you might not see on your own. Others can often highlight behavioral patterns and stress responses that you might overlook, helping you to gain a more comprehensive understanding of yourself. By delving into these aspects of your personality and behavior, you can tailor your self-care practices to address your unique needs, ultimately leading to more effective leadership and a healthier work-life balance.
Ways to Actually Make Self-Care Happen in Your Life
Don't feel overwhelmed by this list! Pick one or two you can work on right now and then add or replace as you have more space or find something else that works better for you.
